God’s Wrath
Part 4
You know Jesus was introduced by John the Baptist his cousin.
John the Baptist said but when he saw many of the
Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism he said. You vipers who warned you
to flee from the Wrath to come.
John the Baptist introducing Jesus Christ warned of this coming smoldering breaking out Dam of God’s
mercy that has held it back but letting out this wrath of God that culminates in
hell now after Jesus goes through the the incredible evening visit of
Nicodemus.
He after goes and shares with him about how you can be born again and how
all sins can be forgiven. God didn’t send his into the world to
condemn the world but that the world through him might believe.
Look how Jesus chooses to conclude that beautiful portrait.
He says this in
John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son
shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
This is the the record that Jesus chose to be the bookend to that great
gospel presentation he who believes in the son has everlasting life but he who does
not believe the son shall not see life but look what happens the wrath of God
abides on him and that is the Eternal ultimate wrath so that means anybody that’s
ever been born on this planet that does not repent and embrace Jesus Christ the
scriptures say the wrath of
God will abide on them.
now this became in Christ’s ministry as he taught a
constant theme remember Jesus talked more about this wrath than he did about the
the pleasures and the joys of Heaven.
In Matthew 8:12
“But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there
shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Jesus is teaching along he said Beware of the Wrath that will
cast anybody who Rebels into outer darkness.
That is not a positive thing to be into outer darkness. In fact you say how
can you talk about a furnace, fire and outer Darkness because Jude tells us
that the Eternal fire of hell is in the Blackness of Darkness forever.
It’s the absence of light. Kind of like how astronomers and astrophysicists
have found the black holes that absorb their power gravitational power is so great.
They can absorb even light. It just sucks it in and
it’s Blackness. That’s a astrophysical description of the Blackness of Darkness.
That is what Jesus talks about in Matthew 13:42
“And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
Jesus is in a string of parabolic teaching.
He said Beware of fake followers of Christ.
He says they look like real wheat but they’re tares.
They’re fake they have no fruit.
They have not been born again.
They will be cast into the burning furnace of God’s Wrath.
Jesus is always alluding to this horrible end.
He says the same wrath is on the wicked in verse
50.
“And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
Here’s one where he puts him together in Matthew 18 Jesus says take Extreme
Measures about Sin.
Don’t think of sin oh that’s nothing I can worry about it
later. It’s not you know someday I’ll think about that or I’ll get right or I’ll do
enough good.
He says take an extreme measure now. This is what he said if your hand are foot causes you to sin.
Now how many sins can you think of with your foot. Come on what he’s saying is if any part of
you leads you into sinning. What you do you with your hands, feet or anything in your life
is leading you to perpetuate sin and sinful Behavior against a holy God.
Cut it off and cast it from you.
What it means is get rid of that part of your life.
Now of course the masochistic mutilating type of people
think that he’s advocating hand cutting you know like Islam does.
No what he’s saying is take radical means. Sin is that bad to God.
Then he says this it’s better for you to enter into life Maime.
You’re dying. When you die is when we enter into life. That means what we’re experiencing
right now is pale compared to what he offers.
That Jesus is implying we’re not even in real life right now.
We’re just existing life is coming but look at this it’s better to enter into life maimed
rather than having two hands or feet and to be cast into the Everlasting fire.
Look at this verse to be cast into Hell Fire. Jesus used two for one. This is very
exemplary of what he taught. Like life that’s Heaven or hell. hell that’s the Wrath.
Two for one. It’s a very natural for or common formula with Jesus twice as much about
judgment as about life,
Well real quickly it’s not just Christ but this picks up in Paul’s Ministry one of
the most frequent usages outside of Revelation is Paul in his epistle he
explains the wrath of God.
We don’t have time to go through all these but just read the references.
Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God
is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness there is an element of the
present horrific results of sin in a culture.
Did you know America right now is the most blatant in your face before all the world.
To see propagator of godlessness I mean in in every way.
I mean we recently had an election you know what in 2020. That year and one of the parties that
was nationally being elected in their platform had a platform of: that are
Abominations against God. Homosexuality and abortion.
We actually have people running on platforms of sin running our country.
Supposely a Christian Nation.
Amazing God is against that he has strong warnings. He says my wrath is revealed from Heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness.
Those who suppress the the truth and unrighteousness.
You know little New York Times went out to the streets and they were interviewing some of the upscale
college kids. You know how New York has some of the greatest schools in the nation.
They were out interviewing them said what do you think of abortion?
One of them said abortion.
We should abort some of the kids that are alive.
They aren’t needed. Either they’re useless I mean college
kids sais this.
Why just get them before they’re born.
Let’s get them after.
See that’s the decline. The declension. The sinfulness spiral out of control.
That sin will gets worse.
This is what the Lord says in Romans 2:5 in accordance with your hardness your
impenitent heart you resist God.
You won’t repent. You’re treasuring up for yourself wrath.
God doesn’t respond. He doesn’t burn up the raping kidnappers on
the spot. The guy that shot up the apartments in Miami or wherever city it was last night.
The SWAT team took him out.
God didn’t burn him on the spot. He Treasures up his wrath.
He waits becasue he’s merciful. He’s waiting for them to come to repentance but if they don’t.
He’s storing it up for the righteous Judgment of God.
In Romans 2:8
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness,
indignation and wrath,
Both words show up. Those who are self-seeking and don’t obey the truth.
But obey unrighteousness will face the indignation that’s the thumos-
that’s the panting wrath and the orge- that’s the settled wrath of God.
When Paul shared the gospel in 1 Thessalonians 1:10
“And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which
delivered us from the wrath to come.”
He told people if you get saved.
You’re saved from the Wrath to come.
The Eternal ultimate wrath.
So God is by nature characterized by a perfect holy and just hatred against sin.
That leads him to store up his fury.
God stores up his Fury. In his wrath is settled and focused against sin.
Do you see why Jonathan Edwards almost 300 years ago preached sinners in
the hands of an Angry God. What this panting
smoldering wrath of God. No sin can go unpunished because God
is absolutely holy and just so even though there may be little or no evident response from God
for most of the sins being poured out by fallen and sinful humans.
God’s justice has kept track of every sin>
Ever sinned against the infinite all knowing Holy God of the universe.
He’s got a record of every one of them but a moment is coming when the
river of Humanity’s sins piling up behind the dam of God’s patience finally reaches the
limit.
When that limit is reached and the dam is breached.
The righteous infinite just Wrath of Almighty God bursts forth.
That’s Revelation 6:1-17
Revelation 6:1 – 6:17
1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
That’s the event when it happens. When the wrath of God before whom no one can stand breaks
out.
You know we would have to live in constant fear of messing up and facing that Furious wrath
if someone had not told us the Glorious truth of the Cross.
See the the truth of the Cross is we can’t stand before the wrath of God but
Jesus stood before it. He took it in our place see that’s what the cross of Jesus
became the target of the wrath of God that was poured out on him.
What he said is anybody that will agree with me that they’re a helpless lost, hopeless Sinner.
Will believe that I’m their only
hope. That they will come like in the Old Testament where they would walk and put their hand
on that innocent lamb and they would confess their sins over the lamb.
Then the lamb would be taken away from them and
slaughtered Jesus said I am the once and for all lamb you place the hand of faith on me
and believe that you sinned, are guilty and worthy to face Everlasting
destruction. I will satisfy God’s Wrath and take forever what you
deserve.
How can you apply the wrath of Revelation 6 ?
I mean it’s avoided by most people people that’s a negative thing. Who wants to talk about that well
the best way I know is to renew our Thanksgiving for what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross.
That’s because in the doctrine of justification.
Do you know what the doctrine of justification says? That in Christ the wrath
of God was satisfied that’s what justification means.
In Christ alone my hope is found. He is
my light. My strength. My song. This Cornerstone. This Solid Ground firm
through the fiercest drought and storm. What Heights of love. What depths of
Peace when fears are stilled. When striving. Cease my comforter. My All In
All here in the love of Christ I Stand.
Till on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was
satisfied for every sin on him was laid and then
look at the faith here in the death of Christ I live when it’s my sin on him I
live so you know what I thought would be great the best way to apply Revelation
6 is to cause us to burst out into personal offerings of thanks to God.
Amen
The End of these lessons on Wrath of God.
“Only one life to live and soon is past
Only what’s done for Christ will last!”
Hoping to make the time I have left count for the glory of God.
