REVELATION 20:11-15

LESSON 2
Part E
WHAT’S THE GOOD NEWS?
Jesus Christ died for sinners – All who receive Him are forgiven of all their
sins – All who are forgiven receive eternal life! Sing – Prayer –
 “God Forgave My Sins”
YES, HE IS QUALIFIED TO SPEAK, AND DOES, WARN US OF HELL!  AND, HE DOES
SO 40+ TIMES IN MATTHEW ALONE – LET’S LOOK AT THEM.  In fact, get a pen
and mark these on paper or in your Bible.  WHY?  Hell is being lost as
a time doctrine.  J. Stott has recently moved away from it, as are others.
If Jesus Christ preached it, so should we.

THERE ARE 7 JUDGMENTS DESCRIBED IN THE WORD OF GOD
Let’s consider two things right now:
1. God’s appointed judgments
2. God’s ultimate/final judgment.  First of all, the Scriptures
describe no less than seven major judgments.
WHAT ARE THEY?
1. JUDGMENT NUMBER ONE: The judgment of sin – When?  About A.D. 30
– Where?  Calvary. – On the cross, Christ became sin for us (2 Cor. 5:21)
and took away the sin (John 1:29) of the world.
2. JUDGMENT NUMBER TWO: The judgment of self – When?  Today – Where?
On earth.  I Cor. 11:31 says, “If we judge ourselves, we won’t be judged.”
3. JUDGMENT NUMBER THREE: Judgment of believer’s deeds.  When?  After
the rapture – Where?  Heaven – (2 Cor. 5) There are seven facts as to
this which especially the Holy Scripture permits us to know:
1. The time the “day of Christ” (I Cor. 1:8)
2. The judge Christ Himself (II Tim. 4:8)
3. The persons “We all” (II Cor. 5:10)
4. The severity its fire (I Cor. 3:13)
5. The standard our faithfulness (I Cor. 4:1-5)
6. The result reward or loss (I Cor. 3:14, 15)
7. The goal glory (I Peter 5:4)
And we are seen to be those who lived for good or nothingness.
4. JUDGMENT NUMBER FOUR: Judgment of Israel – When?  End of the Tribulation.
 – Where? On Earth (Ezek. 20:33-44) – Christ purges out rebels and unbelievers.
5. JUDGMENT NUMBER FIVE: Judgment of Nations – When?  End of the Tribulation
 – Where? A Valley near Jerusalem (Matt. 25:31-46) describes the believing
from unbelieving Gentiles of survivors of the Tribulation.
6. JUDGMENT NUMBER SIX: Judgment of Satan & Demons.  When?  End of the
Millennium – Where?  Earth.  Rev. 20:10.  Jude 6 tells us:  “And the angels
who kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath
reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the
great day.”  God has planned a special judgment for Satan and his angels.
This will occur at the end of the Millennial Kingdom.  Satan and his angels
will be cast into a lake of fire and brimstone, to be tormented day and night
forever and ever (Rev. 20:10; cf. Matt. 25:41).
7. JUDGMENT NUMBER SEVEN: GWT (Great White Throne) – When? End of time – Where?
 At God’s throne.
So, first of all, what are the appointed judgments?
  Sin (2 Cor. 5:21) –
Self (1 Cor. 11:31) –
Saints (2 Cor. 5:10) –
Israel (Ezk. 20) –
Gentiles (Matt. 25)
Satan/Demons (Jude 6/Rev. 20) –
All the dead unconverted (Rev. 20).
Now, let’s go to that scene in Rev. 20:11-15 and see God’s ultimate/final word
to the congregation of the doomed.
Revelation 20: 11-15
11
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth
and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened:
and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged
out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up
the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
LUKE 16 IS AN INTERVIEW OF A MAN IN THE FIRES OF HADES
Turn to Luke 16 to meet another who awoke to a horrible reality.
THE PERSONS – A nameless lost rich man and a faceless sick beggar – Lazarus.
THE PLACE – The grave moments after death. THE PORTRAIT – A foretaste
of Heaven and Hell – of bliss and horror – of paradise and pain – of
righteousness and unrighteousness – of comfort and torment. THE DETAILS
Start in verse 22 as – Christ Jesus our Lord here gives a glimpse of the
grave through the door of death!
Luke 16 22-31
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels
 into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham
afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus,
that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am
 tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good
things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art
 tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that
they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that
 would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my
 father’s house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come
into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead,
they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will
they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
NOTE 10 Piercing Laws of Death for Lost & Saved
1. v. 22 –
Only the body died, not the soul. (both)
Righteous go to bliss – lost go to torments.
2. v. 23 –
Conscious (both)
Intuitive Recognition of Abraham who died 20 centuries before the
rich man and Lazarus.
Can see “far-off” long distances – recognition-those of life “saw
 Lazarus”.
Can speak.
3. v.24 –
Physical desires present
“Thirst” (lost).
Experiences pain (lost) – note the vivid contrast “that tongue that
never lacked on Earth calls for that hand that was unheeded at his gate…”
4. v.25 –
Memory unimpaired.
5. v.26 –
Awareness – trapped in destiny – “Great Chasm” – eternal separation
good and evil – beyond help “none can pass”.
6. v.27 –
No communication from the lost dead to living is allowed…
Wanted to warn of horrors…
The dead have no influence in the spirit world.
7. v.28 –
Reality of constant torment only drove him to have others flee
(recent punk rocker said he wanted to go to Hell with his friends
and have fun.)
8. v.29 –
Word of God determines the destiny of all, the rest passes away.
Abraham knew history after his death (died 20 centuries BC – knew Moses
and prophets 600-1200 years after death).
9. v.30 –
Supernatural not always convinced (Note – Christ’s miracles and
spostles and prophets only confirmed faith – never produces…)
10. v.31 –
No one goes back!
But, is this Hell eternal?  No, it’s only the doorway – the waiting room!
What will the ultimate destination be of the lost?
THE ARGUMENT FROM THE INFINITE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST
(C. H. Macintosh)
“If anything less than eternal punishment be due to sin, what need was
there of an infinite sacrifice to give deliverance from that punishment?
Did Jesus shed His precious blood to deliver us from the consequences
of our guilt, if those consequences were only temporary?  Grant us the
truth of an infinite sacrifice, and we argue from thence the truth of

eternal punishment.”

“Only one life to live and soon is past
Only what’s done for Christ will last!”
Hoping to make the time I have left count for the glory of God.
