Scarlet Sinners Made White as Snow
“Come now, and let us reason, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 KJV
What a glorious promise this text holds. The book of Isaiah begins with God’s charges against Judah. Israel had a terrible civil war that divided the country. Judah was another name for the Southern Kingdom.
God tells them of the coming judgment unless they turned from their sin. America is now under God’s judgment and will be until we repent from the White House to the poor man’s house.
Our text is in reference to the nation of Israel, but I want to make a spiritual application and speak to the unregenerated man.
Our text first says “come.” In the book of Revelation 22:17 the Spirit and the bride say “come.” Sinner your only hope and plea is to come to Christ. The last message of the word of God is come and drink of the water of life freely. There is only one thing that can satisfy the longing of your soul.
You may try many things to quench the thirst, however nothing will satisfy you except Jesus Christ the living water.
Next we see sin compared to scarlet and crimson. These are two very dark red colors. God speaks metaphorically comparing their sin to these colors.
Imagine a white cloth that has not a spot on it. It is pure and white. Then think if someone takes a paint brush and dips it in scarlet and crimson paint. Then they hold it over the cloth allowing the paint to drip all over it.
You would say the cloth is ruined. So it is with fallen man. Sin has ruined our race.
Lastly, we see a cleansing. God says that sins can be made white like snow and wool. Nothing seems to clean this Earth like a good snow. Everything is white and clean.
So it is with the blood of the Lamb of Calvary. The blood of Christ cleanseth us from all sin.
The old hymn says, “and sinners plunge beneath that flood loose all their guilty stains.”
Scarlet sinner, you can be made as wool today. Repent and believe the gospel. Amen!
“Only one life to live and soon is past
Only what’s done for Christ will last!”
Hoping to make the time I have left count for the glory of God.
