Revelation 20:1-10
Lesson 1
PART ONE: THE RETURN OF THE KING OF KINGS
REVELATION 19:11-21
Apostle John vividly shows us Christ’s re-entry. Let’s list off all the biblical
elements that burst forth in this moment as Christ returns.
JESUS APPEARS IN JUDGMENT SEEN BY ALL
1. JESUS ENTERS the sky as Heaven opens, and the sign of the Son of man appears
(Matt. 24:30)
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all
the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the
clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
2. JESUS RIDES on a white horse, accompanied by the armies of Heaven. Out of
His mouth goes forth a sharp two-edged sword, and He Himself treads the winepress
of the wrath of God the Almighty
Rev. 19:11-16)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him
was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he
had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called
The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed
in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the
nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress
of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
3. JESUS WEARS blood dipped garments (Rev. 19:13)And he was clothed with a
vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
4. JESUS HOLDS a ruling rod of iron
Rev. 19:15
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the
nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress
of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God
Psa. 2:9
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces
like a potter’s vessel.
5. JESUS POURS out His wrath on sin as one who treads the winepress
Isa. 63:1-6
1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this
that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength?
I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that
treadeth in the winefat?
3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me:
for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their
blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none
to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it
upheld me.
6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury,
and I will bring down their strength to the earth.
Rev. 19:15
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the
nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress
of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God
6. JESUS GATHERS all the rebels as one who threshes the harvest floor
Mic. 4:12-13
12 But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they
his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor.
13 Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: for I will make thine horn iron,
and I will make thy hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people:
and I will consecrate their gain unto the LORD, and their substance unto
the Lord of the whole earth.
Matt. 3:12
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his
wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
7. JESUS REAPS the Earth with the sickle of Divine Judgment
Joel 3:13
Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down;
for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
Rev. 14:17-18
17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also
having a sharp sickle.
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire;
and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying,
Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of
the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
JESUS APPEARS IN JUDGMENT FEARED BY ALL REBELS
1. JESUS IS RECOGNIZED by the earth dwellers.
Thus, will the despised Jesus of Nazareth again appear!
Then will all the families of the Earth wail. And then shall appear
the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall
all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see
the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Then has come the Day of the Lord
Joel 1:15
Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a
destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Joel 4:14
14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision:
for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.
Amos 5:20
20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark,
and no brightness in it?
2. JESUS IS VISIBLY ANGRY. “The day of His fierce anger”
Isa. 13:13
Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place,
in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.”
The “great and terrible” day
Mal. 4:5
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and
dreadful day of the LORD:
3. JESUS IS LIKE THE WORST STORM IMAGINABLE. “A day of darkness and of gloominess,
a day of clouds and thick darkness”
Joel 2:2
2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness,
as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there
hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the
years of many generations.
Zech. 14:6
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
4. JESUS TERRIFIES THE EARTH. In horror – then will they creep into the clefts and
ravines (Rev. 6:15-16). Then will they hide in the caverns of the rocks and the holes
of the Earth (Isa. 2:19). Then will they call to the mountains, Fall on us! And to
the hills, cover us! (Luke 23:30). But there will be no escape.
Rev. 6:15-16
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief
captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves
in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him
that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev. 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall
desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
Isa. 2:19
And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves
of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty,
when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
Luke 23:30
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to
the hills, Cover us.
JESUS APPEARS IN JUDGMENT POURED ON ALL REBELS
1. HIS ARRIVAL is like the swift and blinding flash of lightning the Lord comes
Matt. 24:27
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west;
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
All the chariots of His army sweep the Earth as a tempest
Isa. 66:15
For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind,
to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire
2. HIS EYES as flames of fire
Rev. 19:12
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns;
and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
3. HIS VOICE as the voice of a lion
Joel 3:16
The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem;
and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of
his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
Isa. 30:30
And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the
lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the
flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.
Isa. 66:15-16
15 For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a
whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and
the slain of the LORD shall be many.
Psa. 110:6
He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies;
he shall wound the heads over many countries.
4. HIS VENGEANCE is flaming fire (II Thess. 1:8; Isa. 66:15, 16);
II Thess. 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God,
and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
5. HIS DAY is as a fiery oven as an inescapable snare
Mal. 4:1
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud,
yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh
shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither
root nor branch.
Matt. 13:41-42
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of
his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and
gnashing of teeth.
Luke 21:33-36
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting,
and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all
these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
6. HIS FEAR as a sudden destruction will “seize all”
I Thess. 5:3
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh
upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
7. HIS WRATH is inescapable as the flood in the days of Noah
Matt. 24:38,39
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the
Son of man be. As the fiery judgment overtook Sodom and Gomorrah
Luke 17:26-32
26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the
Son of man.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day
that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold,
they planted, they builded;
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and
destroyed them all.
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not
come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
32 Remember Lot’s wife.
JESUS APPEARS IN JUDGMENT GLORIFIED BY ALL REBELS
YES, on the Mount of Olives, whence He formerly ascended will the
Lord again first appear.
Zech. 14:4
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives,
which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives
shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west,
and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain
shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
Acts 1:9-12
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld,
he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold,
two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?
this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in
like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which
is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.
* Every eye will see Him
Rev. 1:7
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him,
and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth
shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Matt. 24:30
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:
and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the
Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
Matt. 22:12
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither
not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
*Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, to the honour of God
the Father
Phil.2:11
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
The KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS has returned.
“Only one life to live and soon is past
Only what’s done for Christ will last!”
Hoping to make the time I have left count for the glory of God.
